Devil’s Claw is native to South Africa, and is has been used by indigenous tribes in South Africa as a healing herb for thousands of years to treat inflammation of the joints and muscles.
It is a trailing perennial, native to the desert landscapes of South Africa.
There are only two species of Harpagophytum:H procumbens and H. zeyheri. The active key compound found in Devil’s Claw is harpagoside, a glycoside that inhibits chemicals that are involved in generating inflammation.
Research studies have also confirmed that the root of Devil’s Claw can be used as a treatment for relieving the pain and inflammation of degenerative joint diseases such as osteoarthritis.
